Shamelessly ripped off Ikari's LJ:
 | You scored as The Operative. You are dedicated to your job and very good at what you do. You've done some very bad things, but they had to be done. You don't expect to go to heaven, but that is a sacrifice you've made for a better future for all.

Hm. Wow, my first post someone else's house in a while.
...Actually my first post at all in a while.
I'll be around, all right, but don't be surprised if I'm not too talkative the next few days. Saying that "I feel like total human shit" would be an understatement. I just...feel sick about myself, and the usual drowning-myself-in-video-games method isn't doing making anything better.
I fucked up, and now I'm paying for it.
Yay.

Anyone have any suggestions for a new series of LJ icons? I love me some HK, but it's about time to switch to something.
Also, the last boss in Jak 3 is a huge dick. Not literally, but that would be AWESOME.
Robyn's away for the week. I am coping in the best way I know.

| Oh Japan, you so crazy |
[12 Jul 2005|04:31pm] |
Straight ouuta Compton....er...The Magic Box:
- Here are the Top 20 Best Selling game titles in Japan for the first half of 2005:
1 Gran Turismo 4 (PS2, Sony) - 1,051,961 units 2 Shin Sangoku Musou 4 (PS2, Koei) - 900,689 units 3 DragonBall Z3 (PS2, Bandai) - 639,950 units 4 Nintendogs *all versions* (NDS, Nintendo) - 494,330 units 5 World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 Livewire Evolution (PS2, Konami0 - 458,626 units 6 Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song (PS2, Square Enix) - 443,005 units 7 Sawaru Made in Wario (NDS, Nintendo) - 398,380 units 8 Mobile Suit Gundam: The One Year War (PS2, Bandai) - 384,762 units 9 Super Mario 64DS (NDS, Nintendo) - 355,013 units 10 Tekken 5 (PS2, Namco) - 314,845 units 11 Radiata Stories (PS2, Square Enix) - 293,413 units 12 Devil May Cry 3 (PS2, Capcom) - 278,649 units 13 Dragon Quest VIII (PS2, Square Enix) - 276,604 [3,507,892] units 14 Another Century's Episode (PS2, Banpresto) - 254,527 units 15 Everybody's Golf Portable (PSP, Sony) - 231,933 [362,921] units 16 Monster Hunter G (PS2, Capcom) - 229,966 units 17 Mushiking (GBA, Sega) - 222,199 units 18 Biohazard 4 (GC, Capcom) - 220,704 units 19 Pokemon Emerald (GBA, Pokemon) - 218,574 [1,553,595] units 20 Touch! Kirby: Mahou no Efude (NDS, Nintendo) - 208,405 units
99% of the above is either out over here or coming at some point in the very near future, which is certainly a switch, since the sales charts are usually dominated with stuff like "Racy Dating Sim 7" or "Let's Make a KKK Simulator 8"
or SRW games T_T..Sadly (for me) SRW OG 2 isn't present, but Another Century's Epirose technically counts as a SRW game (same concept, just made by the folks who brought us the Armored Core games)
Oddly enough, Gundam: The One Year War is one of the lowest selling Gundam games ever. Go figure.

| Handheld Wars: The Second Coming – PSP Side |
[26 Jan 2005|09:58am] |
Wow. “Tomorrow-ish” turned into “two weeks” pretty quick, didn’t it? Sorry, folks. I’ve just been too drowned in schoolwork to make any progress on the El Jay as of late. Hopefully, that’ll change now.
Anyway, on with the show:
The PSP is Sony’s first foray into the Wide World of Handhelds, and since the last few competitors have gotten their asses totally kicked (“I believe you have my N-Gauge”) the Big S is being smart about it- the PSP is slightly more powerful than a PS2, and slightly less powerful than is needed to fire lasers from the screen, burning your enemies to death. However, you can’t really tell from some of the launch games, as many look, as EGM so eloquently put it, “like butt.” Death Jr. doesn’t interest me in the least (Whoohoo! Generic platforming, ahoy!), and the fact that the system looks to be The Place Where Bad Ports Go To Die is a little disconcerting as well. Compound this with the fact that the system has a very low battery life. It differs from game to game, depending on how much power it takes to run the thing…which can be good if you’re playing Tetris or something, or very bad if you’re trying to run a race in Need For Speed Underground 2.
In conclusion, both systems have things going for them…and they both have huge, massive, glaring flaws – The PSP has a advantage in the price department, but the DS certainly has the potential to turn out some great games that wouldn’t be possible anywhere else. To quote Shawn Connery in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, “I’m waiting to be impressed.”
Christ, I can’t believe I quoted that movie.
Anyway, next up in the near future, a triple review – Sailor Moon: Another Story, KOTOR 2, and Oddworld: Stranger! Put on your adult diapers!

Hm...it occurs to me that I haven’t updated in a while. Haven’t gotten around to typing up the PSP Side of the Handheld Wars series...that’ll be done eventually....and I beat KOTOR 2 as Light Side, and now I’m going through as a Dark Side female (AKA Darth Bitch)
Expect the PSP bit and the KOTOR 2 review in teh near future.

Gather around, kids. Uncle Frankie’s gonna tell you a little something about a topic he likes to think he knows something about- the wonderful world of the video game business.
As anyone who hasn’t suddenly become a hermit in the past few months knows, the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP are due to throw down in a handheld gaming system battle the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the days of the Game Gear, and judging by the money and man power both companies are chucking into the systems, it’ll probably make that conflict look like crap.
However, while Nintendo’s GB systems have been solid pieces of work up till this point, the DS suffers from an immediately noticeable problem: the launch titles, for the most part, suck. Except for Super Mario 64 x 4 and a couple of lower profile titles (Feel The Magic, for instance), the games have received everything from a lukewarm reception to outright hatred (American Dating Sims = Blehghherrrr) and personally, nothing that’s come out *yet* has convinced me it’s not another Virtual Boy-esque waste of my time.
There are SOME promising titles coming up (Jump! Super Stars, Super Robot Wars DS, Wario Ware DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters) that may get me to think otherswise, but until then, I’m taking a watch and wait attitude with the whole thing.
Anyway, join me tomorrow-ish when I talk about the Sony PSP and its flying disks of death! You better get ready!

| Statement of the Obvious: KOTOR 2 is a very good game |
[06 Jan 2005|10:02am] |
Well, I’m about 16 hours or so into KOTOR 2. Chillin’ on Nar Shadaa, hacking foo’s up with my new lightsaber , being so Light Side I could walk into a room, throw my hands up and proclaim myself Jesus and everyone would go along with it, and hitting on two out of the three females in my party.
Yet something seems missing.
The constant obvious threats to various innocent bystanders. The shouts of glee that come with gunning down enemies with a blaster rifle from 50 feet. The love of the term “meatbag”.
This game will not be complete until I get HK-47. Thusly I must get the last HK-47 piece out of the vault ASAP.
Then, I can stop this Light Side goody-goody crap and get to the maiming and slaughtering

| The Amazing 5-Second Update |
[03 Jan 2005|10:01am] |
School has begun anew, and I’m finding myself pressed for time, so I’d just like to announce that this LJ will be updated regularly once again (give or take a few days) and that will serve as proof that I am, in fact, not dead.
In other news, I have both an X-Box for my room now, and KOTOR 2, which I shall spend much of tonight playing.
Also, go buy Bleach and read it. Right now. Do it. Go. NOW.

Better update tomorrow. Or not. Who knows.

| And The Award Goes To….. |
[15 Dec 2004|09:39am] |
…Spike TV, for their asinine presentation they dared to call a video game award show, when a better description would be “Urban Hip-Hop Wiggity-Wack Rappa Gangsta Dumbass Awards, Yo”. I don’t think I’ve ever physically become *stupider* from watching a show…until last night. For those who missed it, I’ll give you the gist:
Funkmaster Flex: (yelling so damn loud into the mic everything he says sounds like a blur): HEYNOWEVERYONEINDAHOUSEAREYOUREADYFORDAGAAAAAMESHOLLATCHOBOI!?
Crowd: YEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!
Funkmaster Flex: WELLATSTOODAMNBADBECAUSEWE’VEGOTMUSICALPERFORMANCESBYSNOOPDOG,SOMEPEOPLEIDON’TKNOW,ANDCRISSCROSS!!!!
(No, Criss-Cross wasn’t there. Too bad. Might of made it interesting.)
[40 MINUTES LATER]
Funkmaster Flex: ANDNOWWE’VEGOTSNOOPINARETARDEDRAPBATTLEWITHAVIDEOGAMEVERSIONOFHIMSELFTHATHASPOORLYDUBBEDINDIALOUGE!
Crowd: ……Yay?
[20 MINUTES LATER]
No-Name B-Actor-Man: And…the…winner for…..best….ass in a game…is…John Madden!
Crowd: ……………..
[10 MINUTES LATER]
Funkmaster Flex: ANDNOWWE’LLANNOUNCERPGOFTHEYEAR!!
Me: Yay!
Funkmaster Flex: ..INAFIVESECONDMONTAGEWEREWESTUCKITINWITHOTHERUNIMPORTANTCATEGORIES,LIKEBESTSOUNDTRACKANDMOSTORIGINAL!!!!
Me: …..*eye twitch, that goes into full-blown yell of rage when it’s Fable*
…..Aaand I’ve pretty much blocked out the rest of the show from my mind.
Attention, Spike TV: Video games are more mainstream now than ever. Mainstream does not equal “Street”. Video games are not street. Video games are not urban. I don’t mind urban video games, but I don’t need some rapper talking about Halo 2 to me, okay? I guarantee the average gamer has forgotten more about this shit than these idiots will ever know.
Leave the game awards to G4TechTV.
Yeah, I know what I said. Consider it to be the lesser of two evils.

juraiguy15: oooo, getting DEFENSIVE now, are we?! SantaClaus: Well have you played hangman yet?
juraiguy15: ...Maybe SantaClaus: Sorry the elves didn't get that.
juraiguy15: Well, do you mean now, or in general? SantaClaus: I could tell you, but that would spoil all of the fun.
juraiguy15: ...What does that even MEAN? SantaClaus: My goodness. What, what?
juraiguy15: ....... SantaClaus: Ah -- you've got me again. Why don't you type menu, it's time to get you in the holiday spirit!
juraiguy15: I AM in the holiday spirit SantaClaus: Without a doubt?
juraiguy15: Without. A. Doubt. SantaClaus: Oh, Dear. It's the elves again isn't it? Try typing menu; I've got a plan to get you in the Christmas spirit.
juraiguy15: ...........I'M IN IT SantaClaus: Type menu to get your to do list for the holidays.
juraiguy15: !!!!!!!! SantaClaus: Hmm. Why don't you type, music, maybe that will put you in the Christmas spirit
juraiguy15: *dies of frustration* SantaClaus: Wait, I was dancing to 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' and got a little carried away. Why don't you type music and sing along.

As you may of guessed by now, I love playing fairly old games. Thus I’m currently hooked on Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. Although I’m enjoying it and all, I can’t get over exactly how little tactical sense I actually have. I always manage to walk into a trap/ambush/units idling around and eventually deciding its a good idea to attack me/whatever and end up getting slaughtered, only to recover through pure brute force.
I *do* love me some brute force.
I guess it just proves not everyone has the makings of a great general. I can’t imagine I’m very popular in that game.
Me: Okay, men. You’re going to go straight across that bridge into uncharted enemy territory and attack that rocket launcher!
Infantry: Umm…isn’t there a good chance that we’ll all…ah…die?
Me: Hahahaha…of COURSE there is. Fortunately, I’ve got these big-ass tanks waiting for you to draw out the enemy and bite it so they can avenge your deaths!
Infantry: Couldn’t you just send the tanks in first?
Me: …………………………..No.
Ah, the millions of tiny chibi people I’ve killed. I am surely history’s greatest monster.
